PXMTM is a product concept for a multi-tenant control plane over Proxmox clusters. It starts with a problem common to service providers: the infrastructure platform is powerful, but safely giving customers a useful view of their own environment requires another layer.
The missing layer
Operators need fleet-wide control. Customers need a simple, isolated experience for their own virtual machines, usage and routine actions. Exposing the underlying cluster console gives away too much complexity and too much access.
The product model
- Tenant isolation. Each customer sees only the clusters and resources assigned to that account.
- Delegated operations. Common lifecycle actions can move to customers without exposing platform administration.
- Provider visibility. Capacity, health and customer activity remain visible across the whole service.
- API-first integration. Proxmox remains the infrastructure engine while PXMTM becomes the product and policy layer above it.
What the concept shows
I keep returning to control planes because they are where infrastructure becomes a product. PXMTM explores the same boundary as BBS and CortenDesk: take a capable engine, design the missing operational layer and make it usable by more people.
